Ne-Yo has confessed he was useless at talking to the opposite sex at high school.

The R&B heartthrob has an army of female fans nowadays and woos women with his smooth voice and romantic song lyrics.

But the singer admits he used to get so nervous around girls he wanted to impress, that he would end up saying the first thing that came into his head, however ridiculous it sounded.

“I’ve never been any good at it. I was the worst at high school. If I liked a girl I’d be like, ‘Oh, er, hey, how you doing? I like your…ears,’” recalled the embarrassed star.

He says he was lucky enough to have a smooth-talking friend who would attract female attention for him. The pal would then tell the ladies that Ne-Yo could sing, allowing him to impress them with his vocal abilities rather than his conversational skills.

“I had this friend though who was a genius at chatting up girls. He’d get them to come over and then say, ‘Hey, have you met my fiend? He can sing!’” Ne-Yo told British magazine More!.

The star went on to joke that he thinks God gave him his musical talent to help him win the hearts of women.

“I think that’s why God gave me this voice, so I wouldn’t have to talk to girls - I could just sing to them!” he laughed.
