Steve Jones is rumoured to be the frontrunner to become the host of the US version of The X Factor.

The Welsh TV star is said to be the favourite to host the US version of the British show, which Simon Cowell is launching on Fox next year.

According to the NY Post, Jones has not yet signed a deal but is one of Cowell's favourites along with Nicole Scherzinger, who he wants as one of the judges.

A spokeswoman for Syco said: "Absolutely nothing has been decided about presenters or judges. It's too early to speculate."

Fox reportedly declined to comment on the report.

Jones, 33, has presented a number of British TV shows and has been romantically linked to stars such as Halle Berry and Pamela Anderson.

If the report is true this would not be the first time that a British host has presented a US TV show as Birmingham-born presenter Cat Deeley is the host of US show So You Think You Can Dance.
