Anjelica Huston: Katherine Hepburn Inspires Me
Anjelica Huston wanted to be Katherine Hepburn when she was growing up.
The 59-year-old actress is the daughter of late American actor and director John Huston. She spent most of her childhood on her father’s film sets, meeting the best actors and actresses of the era.
While Anjelica was often star-struck during this period, there were only two women who left a lifelong impact on her: glamorous actresses Katherine Hepburn and Ava Gardner.
“Katherine Hepburn was very much the woman I aspired to be: grace under fire, holding on to her dignity but still with heart,” Anjelica told Empire magazine.
“I also thought Ava Gardner was amazing. When my father was directing an opera in Milan in 1965 he introduced me to her. I remember her in a white fur coat, turquoise and diamonds. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.”
Anjelica went on to become a successful actress in her own right, starring in a host of films including The Witches, The Addams Family and Prizzi’s Honor, for which she won an Academy Award for best supporting actress.
