Ryan Reynolds Hated Green Lantern Suit
Ryan Reynolds The actor plays Hal Jordan, who is also Green Lantern, in the upcoming superhero film. Hal is an everyday man who is asked to become a member of the Green Lantern Corps, who keep intergalactic order. Each person in the group is given a ring which is powered by their imagination and gives them superhero powers.
Ryan enjoyed filming the movie, although wishes he hadn’t had to spend so much time in a motion capture suit. The Lycra body stockings are used in movies which include a lot of computer-generated imagery (CGI). They are covered in motion sensors, so actor’s movements can be monitored when the imagery is added in after shooting, and Ryan has discussed how uncomfortable they are.
“They've managed to find a material that most would agree is the most aggravating substance on Earth," Ryan lamented. "We're shooting in Louisiana, which is pretty close to the sun in terms of the hottest place you can find anywhere around.”
Despite this, making the movie has been a lot of fun. Ryan feels a deep connection with his character, and hopes he has managed to do it justice. Green Lantern has been played by a lot of different actors in the past, and Ryan was wary of copying anyone too closely.
“Anytime you're dealing with a guy who has something unbelievable and insurmountable to overcome, it makes for a pretty interesting story," the star told the USA Today newspaper. "As an actor, it's an interesting and excellent thing for me to get an opportunity to play. He's a bit of a fractured human being. He has watched his father die, and we move on to find him a little bit later in life, and he's kind of arrogant, cocky and aimless. It's this extraordinary power that's bestowed upon him that sets him upon a humbler path.”
