Claire Danes: I’m Only Interested In ‘Thrilling’ Films
Claire Danes doesn’t leave her house if a role doesn’t “genuinely thrill” her.
The 31-year-old actress shot to fame when she starred in Little Women in 1994. She has had a varied career since then, taking time off from film to star in theatre productions and study psychology at Yale University.
She has now returned to movies, but refuses to rule out changing her mind in the future. Claire insists she is attracted to good characters, and not acting as a whole, and will only sign on to films if a role excites her.
"I'm quite careful what I choose to do, to be honest. If I'm not genuinely thrilled by the prospect, I'd rather stay home,” Claire explained in an interview with Australian newspaper The Age.
"My whole career, I didn't think of it as 'damn the consequences'. I just followed my particular interests. I didn't think I was making such reckless choices. And I didn't feel like I was quitting the business, either.
“I was just pursuing what I was doing. When I came back to acting, I wasn't quitting school. I had gotten what I needed from that experience, that's all."
Claire has also had a chequered past with the media. She was hounded when she was accused of having an affair with Billy Crudup in 2004 and pursued again when she dumped Bill for British actor Hugh Dancy. Claire and Hugh wed in an intimate ceremony in France last September, and the actress says she has finally stopped caring about what people think about her.
"I've no idea really how I'm perceived," she said. "It's an impossible thing to get a hold of. That's not terribly interesting to me, you know. It's nice to feel that people appreciate your work - that is important to me. The rest of it, I have no control over."
