Sylvester Stallone: Fans Love My Characters Not Me
The 64-year-old actor was catapulted to fame in 1976 when he starred in Rocky, a rags-to-riches film about an amateur boxer who gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship. He has since starred in a string of cult hits, including several Rocky sequels, Rambo and Judge Dredd, earning him millions of adoring fans worldwide.
Although he has been a star for over 30 years, Sylvester only recently realised that people worshipped him for his plucky characters, and not his own looks and acting abilities.
“It’s the characters that I played they really enjoyed, not just me,” he laughed in a video interview with ET Online. “To be able to have a character that is still resonating with people 30 years later, it’s the best.
“I don’t take it lightly, believe me. I used to but I don’t anymore. I know how lucky I am.”
Sylvester can next be seen in upcoming action film The Expendables, which tells the story of a group of mercenaries who are sent to South America to overthrow a brutal dictator. The movie also stars Jet Li, Bruce Willis and Jason Statham.
