Tom Cruise Chose Film Because It Was ‘Fun’
Tom Cruise says the only way he wouldn’t have had fun on the set of his new movie is if he was dead.
The Hollywood star plays secret agent Roy Miller in Knight and Day, which stars Cameron Diaz as June Havens. Roy unwittingly gets June caught up in his latest assignment, which he discovers he isn’t meant to survive.
It is the first time Tom and Cameron have teamed up since 2001’s Vanilla Sky, and both decided to sign on because the film looked like so much fun.
“We called each other beforehand and I was like, ‘Look, if we can’t have fun making this movie, we shouldn’t be alive. Forget it,’” Tom explained. “We wanted that to translate to the audience.”
“If we don’t come to work every single day and have a good time, there’s no reason,” Cameron added.
Cameron enjoyed making Knight and Day because it was so different to the other films she has starred in. She loves shooting the action scenes, and is proud the movie manages to fuse them with comedy and romance.
“When you’re making any film, but particularly a film like this where there is a lot of action, we were really putting it together on the day, and the comedy and the romance – there’s so many different aspects to this film that you don’t usually... they are very separate but we mushed it all together,” she said during an interview with British programme GMTV.
