Charisma Carpenter: Psychosis Role Was Tough
Charisma Carpenter The actress is best known for playing cheerleader Cordelia Chase in the 90s American television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and spin-off programme Angel.
Despite the variety in her career, Charisma says her lead role as American novelist Susan in the British horror movie was the most challenging performance she’s given to date as it involved violent sex scenes and a great deal of emotional turmoil.
Susan moves to a haunted house in rural England to find peace and quiet but ends up being driven to madness after a series of paranormal occurrences.
To prepare for the demanding part Charisma used the famous Meisner Technique, a method used by actors to access powerful emotions. It was the first time Charisma had applied the method and she enjoyed talking her acting to a more profound level.
“I did a lot of emotional preparation, a lot of Meisner Technique to get to the places that I had to go with her so that was a nice change. It was the first job that I’ve ever had to actually prepare in terms of taking time to prepare to get to the place you need to be through your imagination. That was a wonderful experience,” she told Cover Media.
