Tom Cruise: David Beckham Should Be In Movies
Tom Cruise has vowed to do all he can to help David Beckham win a movie role.
The actor became firm friends with the soccer star when David moved to Los Angeles in 2007, after signing with team L.A. Galaxy. The pair have frequently spoken of their close bond, and regularly spend evenings together chatting.
David was unable to play for England in the 2010 FIFA World Cup because he was injured, but travelled to South Africa with the team for support. He gave them motivational talks before matches, and turned to Tom for advice on public speaking. The actor has confirmed he wants to help David move into films.
“David can act. And we’ve got to set him up. We’ve got to get him to Hollywood. I don't know what kind of film yet, I've got lots of ideas. I'll have to think about it. But with Beckham, we've got so many choices,” Tom explained during his recent trip to the UK.
“I've been texting him about it already. We're text buddies. We text each other all the time. Especially when he was injured. I can't wait to see him back in the States.”
David’s wife Victoria has already tried her hand at acting. She released movie Spice World with her former band The Spice Girls in 1997, and has also had a cameo on US comedy Ugly Betty. The star even voiced a character on animated programme SpongeBob SquarePants, and thinks David should give acting a shot too.
“I'm sure one day we'll see Beckham in one of Tom Cruise's movies. He and Victoria are very well liked in Hollywood. They have a lot of A-list friends, including Tom and his wife Katie Holmes,” a source told British newspaper The Daily Mirror. “Victoria is always getting asked to appear on shows and in movies, she likes to dabble in different things. I'm sure she will encourage - and offer lots of advice - if David gets an offer from Cruise.”
