Scarlett Johansson is set to star as the sole survivor of a failed space mission in a new 3D movie.
The actress initially made a name for herself in romantic comedies and dramas, but she proved her action credentials playing the fiery Black Widow in the action-packed blockbuster Iron Man 2.
It is now understood that Scarlett will portray the leading lady in Alfonso Cuarón's latest science-fiction project Gravity.
Alfonso - whose previous work includes the thrilling drama Children of Men – is believed to have originally had Angelina Jolie lined up as his leading lady.
The movie will follow the adventures of the female lead as she tries to return home to Earth after a space mission goes fatally wrong.
Scarlett is said to have "verbally agreed" to star in the movie according to the New York Daily News, and Robert Downey Jr. has also been linked to the project. Little is known about his role yet.
