Sheryl Crow: I’m Inspired By Religious People
Sheryl Crow's latest album was inspired by the "God-fearing" people she grew up around.
Sheryl's unique blend of country, rock and pop music has made her one of America's most successful female recording artists. The singer's latest album is country-inspired and features tracks reminiscent of her early works such as 1996 hit If It Makes You Happy.
Sheryl says the title of the new album, 100 Miles From Memphis, is particularly significant as she sought inspiration from her childhood in south-west America when composing the songs. She was inspired to make music by the religious people she was surrounded by during her upbringing, and she admired their connection with nature.
"The drive to Memphis is all farmland, and everyone is community-oriented, God-fearing people, connected to the earth. The music that came out of that part of the world is the biggest inspiration for what I do and why I do it," she told RadarOnline.
The 48-year-old star went on to say her childhood not only influenced her music, but also shaped her outlook on life.
"I grew up in a small town 100 miles from Memphis, and that informed not only my musical taste, but how I look at life," added Sheryl.
