Lindsay Lohan’s New Lawyer Wants Her In Jail
Lindsay Lohan The 24-year-old actress was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab earlier this month, after she was found to have breached the terms of her probation. Lindsay had not been to enough of the alcohol education classes she was ordered to as part of her 2007 conviction for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
She burst into tears upon hearing the sentence, and her mother Dina was quick to brand it unfair. It soon emerged Lindsay had parted ways with her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley, and she is said to be considering appealing her sentence.
It has now been confirmed that Lindsay has hired Robert Shapiro, the attorney who infamously successfully defended OJ Simpson when he was accused of murdering his wife and her lover in 1994. Rumours Lindsay was working with Robert have been swirling since she checked into sober house Pickford Lofts earlier this week.
The facility was set up by Robert after his son died of a drug overdose in 2005, and it was thought Lindsay checking in was part of a ploy to avoid prison by showing she was committed to overcoming her addictions.
Robert has now spoken about Lindsay, saying he is happy to work with her but will not be trying to get her out of serving time in jail.
"I have agreed to represent Ms. Lohan on the condition that she complies with all of the terms of her probation, including a requirement of jail time that was imposed by Judge Marsha Revel," Robert said in a statement.
"Ms. Lohan is suffering from a disease that I am all too familiar with. Hopefully, I can be of assistance to Ms. Lohan and Judge Revel in implementing a treatment approach recommended by medical professionals for Ms. Lohan's long term recovery and sobriety."
Robert filed the paperwork to replace Shawn Chapman Holley yesterday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Lindsay is due to begin her jail stint on July 20. She has previously been in rehab three times.
