Jason Isaacs doesn’t understand why he has got “younger and slimmer” as the Harry Potter film franchise progresses, while the film’s young stars have got “older and more wizened”.

The 47-year-old British actor plays villain Lucius Malfoy in the boy wizard movies. The first film came out in 2001, when the series’ stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were just 11 years old.

Filming wrapped on the final two instalments in the franchise earlier this year, and Jason was amazed by how much older the young actors look now.

“I’ve got slimmer and younger, oddly, as they’ve got older and more wizened. Why is that?” he quipped.

On a more serious note, Jason was devastated when he filmed his final scenes for the movies. He loved appearing in the films, and hopes they will be enjoyed for many years to come.

“It’s left a gaping hole in my life,” he said in an interview with BBC Radio 2. “I can’t pretend it’s anything other than sad.

“It’s been an absolute joy. The nice thing is I think the films are good enough that they’ll be on shelves for years to come – hopefully my grandchildren will be watching them.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has been split into two parts, with the first due out in November this year, and the second in July 2011.
