Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Trip The Light Fantastic
Released May 21, 2007
Label: Polydor RecordsReviewed By: Daniel Black
Rating: 7/10
Sophie Ellis-Bextor, the inconsistent face of bad-girl pop releases a mind-blowing album, which alternates between stereotype pop tracks and sulky dance songs.
Everything about “Trip The Light Fantastic” is fury filled. It’s a fiery collection of some of the most diverse pop songs you’ll hear simultaneously.
Sophie has always been somewhat variable during her career in terms of success as well as style. “Murder On The Dancefloor” was energetic, ground-breaking pop at it’s finest whereas “Music Gets the Best of Me” was just desperate nonsense. Her last two releases bared similar contrast. “Catch you” was nouvelle, it was bright and bubbly but all that came to nothing when it was cancelled out by a rather pointless “Me and My Imagination”. So how does she solve the problem?
Release such a great album as “Trip The Light Fantastic” and simple statement by doing so, that she is fantastic.
Edging towards the rock-chick look shared by Amy Winehouse, Sophie Ellis-Bextor makes a triumphant return to the scene she once dominated, to win over the fans she’s always dreamed of and content the fans of yesteryear.
