Live Review: Enter Shikari
Enter Shikari Dingwalls, London - It’s been a while since Enter Shikari last played a gig in London let alone headlined. With only 350 tickets available it was minutes before the gig sold out. Those lucky enough to buy tickets were involved in a night of sweaty mayhem, with people hanging from the ceiling and crowd surfers aplenty.
As the band took to the stage the crowd sang happy birthday to [guitarist] Rory Clewlow. Later on birthday boy Rory attempts to crowd surf his way to back bar of the venue for a drink but sadly doesn’t quite make it. Tonight is a celebration of Rory’s birthday and a send-off before they head out to Warped Tour 2011.
Not wanting anyone to miss out on the celebration the Shikari lads set up a live streaming of the gig across the internet for those who lost out on buying tickets.
Tonight sees more of an old school Shikari playing classics like ‘Sorry You’re Not A Winner’ and ‘Mothership’ from their debut album ‘Take To The Skies’. Their brand new single however proves to be just as popular as their oldies. During ‘Quelle Surprise’ there's a massive grin on vocalist Rou Reynolds face as the crowd sing back the lyrics “we're aware they're trying to take away our dreams” to him. The band also play a variety of songs from their ‘Common Dreads’ album including ‘Wall’, ‘Hectic’ and their most popular singles ‘No Sleep Tonight’ and ‘Juggernauts’ which really get the crowd moving.
Before the band end with ‘OK, Time For Plan B’ Rory is handed a fiver by a generous member of the crowd and he then invites everyone to “stay for my party”. Those over the age of 18 were able to stay behind to enjoy an after party until 2am.
Enter Shikari have recently announced a long-awaited headline tour for October this year with support from Letlive and Your Demise.
