The band are releasing their fifth studio album which they say will be more of a soft rock album than their previous work.

The words East 17 and soft rock band don’t come together very often, but it looks like they could in future as the former boyband are relaunching themselves as a band with a “transatlantic rock sound reminiscent of bands like Kings of Leon and Bryan Adams.”.

Former band members Tony Mortimer, John Hendy and Terry Caldwell are forming the group and their debut album is out at the beginning of April.

They told fans that their fifth studio album will have a rockier sound that East 17 have never been renowned for in the past, and in a press release revealed how they think it is a gamble that will pay off.

“It’s a brave move and one that’s paid off on a record that’s as catchy as Summer of ’69 and as soft rock and big sounding as it gets,” the statement said. “I think everyone is subconsciously inspired by American music and rock ‘n’ roll and this time around we wanted to do something more live with less tricks.”

The album Dark Light is out on April 2nd
