Bruce Springsteen releases We Take Care Of Our Own video
Bruce Springsteen Bruce Springsteen has always been at his best when he’s writing about what is happening to his country.
He proves this once again on new track We Take Care of Our Own, the first single from latest album Wrecking Ball, which had its video premier today.
As with many “important” Springsteen tracks, there is an easy ability to misinterpret the lyrics, as famously happened with 1984’s Born In The USA. Many will take the song as a rallying cry with the lyrics, “Wherever this flag is flown, We take care of our own” reverberating throughout the song, but look a little deeper and the verse of “Where’s the help, the cavalry’s stayed home/There ain’t no one hearing the bugle blowing” brings home that the meaning could be a lot less simple.
The accompanying video, featuring trademark Springsteen moments and images of regular people “getting on” in these trying financial times , and perfectly symbolises what The Boss does best. Every country could say the same line, “We take care of our own” and it would be true. There is little unity in the world, and it comes down to looking out for yourself. That is what the song is saying, and once again, Springsteen has tapped into the situation perfectly.
