Adam Lambert becomes Queen frontman
Adam Lambert
For a contestant of American Idol fame, Adam Lambert hasn’t done too bad in landing his latest gig, as the new frontman with Queen.
It was back in 2009 that Brian May revealed he had thought about approaching the singer to front the band for a tour, and now it has finally happened following their performance together at the EMAs.
Lambert will be fronting the band on their summer tour this year, but before the Queen aficionados get their chance to rip a strip off him, the singer has made it clear that he is never going to be a replacement for the late, great Freddie Mercury.
"The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f–king great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of.
"After the EMAs, I heard faint little slithers of a backlash from people saying: 'You can’t replace Freddie Mercury.' But I already knew that.
"There's no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That's impossible. The way I'm choosing to view it is that it's a great honour and one I'm in no way going to shirk…Being asked to front Queen is the best thing that can possibly happen."
In the end, if it helps bring the music of Queen to a new generation who will then go out and discover the original versions of the songs and Freddie, how exactly can it hurt. At least the lad has more flamboyance than Paul Rodgers.
