Gene Simmons: Axl Rose would have been helped by a good beating
Gene Simmons Gene Simmons has taken a swipe at Axl Rose claiming Guns N’ Roses could have been “the best band” in the world.
The KISS bassist thinks the singer’s use of drugs, alcohol and refusal to reunite the original band line up after falling out with Slash is the reason they are not.
In an interview with Music-News.com, he said: "Guns N' Roses could have been the best band in the world, and the reason they're not is because of Axl Rose. I mean, the drugs, the heroin, the alcohol and all that. But ultimately, it falls on Axl's shoulders.
"A good beating would have helped. I mean, when you misbehaved as a little kid and continued to do it, there was somebody there to give you a what for. Then when you become a grown-up, who's there to set you straight?"
Meanwhile, Axl Rose defended himself over the band's late tendencies.
The Guns N’ Roses frontman explained why the rockers became notorious for appearing late at their live shows.
The singer told VH1's That Metal show that the habit originated on the band's 1991 tour.
He said: "I should have not agreed to do that tour, but didn't know how to get out of it after it was booked.
"I only went on tour for three reasons. My manager had booked a tour without authorization, but then I'm gonna be sued for it. He was also telling me if Slash dies of heroin, or whatever, it's my fault. And Slash pushing me.
"Just a lot of times, day of show for some reason, everything starts going wrong. People are making mistakes, you’re making mistakes, and nobody even knows why."
