Blink-182 'too nice after reunion'
Blink-182 The 39-year-old American star is a member of the popular punk band – also comprising of drummer Travis Barker and singer-and-guitarist Tom DeLonge.
After tensions in the group, Tom left in early 2005, sending Blink-182 into indefinite hiatus. They eventually reunited in February 2009 and started work on their sixth studio album Neighborhoods.
Mark says the atmosphere was a bit too over-friendly in the first instance.
“We started writing new songs initially off the bat [when they first got back together] but it was too new. We were all being a bit too nice to one another,” he told Kerrang! magazine.
“I think after four or five songs of recording, it really fell away because nobody was ready for the tension that we needed [to record].”
Tom is certain that previous issues won’t resurface between the band. However, the 35-year-old musician says there will still be the odd argument.
“No-one wants the band to break up again. No-one wants to fight again. No-one wants to bum each other out, because we all enjoy this. We like what this is. So we’re not going to call each other up and go ‘You’re a f**king a**hole, what the f**k?’” he explained.
“We know it can disappear really quickly, so we value it a lot more now. Because of that, everyone is really respectful of one another. We still butt heads, but when we come together, we say, ‘Dude this is what I want, lets figure it out.’”
