The Rolling Stones star is keen to work with his former The Faces bandmate again especially now the Stones' 50th anniversary tour next year is doubtful.

A source told the Daily Express: "Ron and Rod have both talked about doing something together again for ages but it's been a question of conflicting schedules. Ron has been holding off committing to anything too far down the line because it was presumed the Stones would be back in the coming months. Now that seems to be off the agenda, there's a chance for Ron and Rod to do something together next year."

Last week, Stones' frontman Sir Mick Jagger warned fans not to "hold their breath" for a tour next year.

Earlier this year, Rod and Ronnie thrilled the crowd at London's Hard Rock Calling when the 'Hot Legs' hitmaker he halted a performance of his classic track 'Maggie May' to invite his "old mucker" to play guitar on the song, which they then followed with The Faces' most famous track 'Stay With Me'.
