LaBeouf and Marilyn Manson release music video
Marilyn Manson Shia and Marilyn worked together on the rock star’s music video for his newest single Born Villain. The actor has long had a deep fascination with Marilyn’s work.
"Marilyn Manson to me is an indelible figure," Shia told MTV News. "He's a big deal to me, and in my childhood, I don't know of a scarier figure in art. He, in my teenage years, was the scariest thing in the world, so part of me has always been intrigued."
The video was heavily influenced by famed playwright William Shakespeare’s works. The graphic video also has theological undertones.
"The song has all these references to Macbeth and all this Shakespeare and heavy theology, so we tried to make Manson's Un Chien Andalou macabre Macbeth — that's sort of what that became,” Shia explained.
Directing is a favourite pastime of Shia’s. He has also helmed a music video for Kid Cudi and Cage’s single Maniac. When he is not shooting films, Shia enjoys partaking in these collaborative projects.
"This is a really cool diversion for me when I'm not making a movie," Shia said. "It gives me an opportunity to work with musicians I admire who I would otherwise never get to work with in any other capacity. I really have a fun time doing it. It allows me to be creative in another art form and work with heroes.”
Although it was rumoured that he and Marilyn got into a fracas at a nightclub in Los Angeles over the weekend, Shia insists that they are on good terms. He and Marilyn have a lasting friendship.
"I love Marilyn," Shia said. "Manson is like a brother to me now. He's a real sweet dude, a real close friend."
Shia and Marilyn will screen the video together at a book-signing event held at Hennessey + Ingalls bookstore in Los Angeles Thursday night.
