Jared Leto: I was never cool
Jared Leto The American singer is frontman for the alternative rock band – also comprising of drummer Shannon Leto and guitarist Tomo Miličević. Jared says the group have never fitted into society easily and have used their music as a way of expression.
“This band and its fans have always been the odd ones out,” he told Kerrang!
“A lot of people in this family… have always felt that way. In my life I was never the popular kid or in the in crowd.”
Jared’s fans are the most important thing to him. The 39-year-old singer-songwriter feels complete knowing he’s created a vessel for like-minded people to “connect” with each other.
“Ultimately, it’s about the desire to connect, to be yourself and be part of a community. A lot of friendships have been made. Now it goes above and beyond the band or anything to do with us,” he said.
“It’s now the fans and their lives. That’s a great thing to be a part of and to have helped create.”
Jared and the rest of the band are renowned for their extensive touring. The star says being on the road so much is finally wreaking havoc with his body.
“Touring has been physically tough. You have this container, this body, and unfortunately it has got its limitations.
“Everything has gone by so fast we haven’t really had the time to take our foot off the pedal and, as you can see, my body is breaking down a little,” he explained.
