Is Meat Loaf going hip-hop?
Meat Loaf The Dead Ringer For Love hitmaker worked with the Public Enemy rapper – who is renowned for his hard-hitting political lyrics – and Lil Jon, who is well known for singing on Usher song Yeah, on tracks for his 12th studio album.
Meat Loaf – who was born Marvin Lee Aday – discussed Chuck D’s input, explaining that “D was going to do one thing, and he came back and did something else and we flipped out”.
However, even though he worked with the hip-hop stars, Meat Loaf – who possesses an almost operatic voice – reassured his fans that Hell In A Hand Basket will be “rock, definitely rock”, as well as the “most personal record I’ve ever made”.
The 63-year-old was speaking to Billboard.com and added that the album is “about how I feel the world’s gone to hell in a hand basket”, while also pointing out that “it’s really the first record that I’ve ever put out about how I feel about life and how I feel about what’s going on at the moment”.
But the singer is not resting on his laurels and is already working on his 13th solo release, as well as a Christmas album.
He stated that, “after I played [record company] Sony Hell in a Hand Basket, I said, ‘Look, I’ve got two other records – I’ve got a Christmas record and I’ve got another record’, and they said, ‘Well, get us the Christmas record and start working on the other one’, so there you go…I’ll just keep recording”.
Meat Loaf is currently recuperating after collapsing twice during the past fortnight. His first collapse came during a gig in Pittsburg last Thursday, with that problem being credited to an asthma attack, while he also passed out on Sunday when backstage at a New Jersey music festival, and needed an oxygen supply for 10 minutes.
No matter his troubles, he has promised to honour his upcoming dates on the Guilty Pleasure Tour.
