John Lydon's house has burned down.

The PiL rocker – who was known as Johnny Rotten when he was frontman of seminal punk band The Sex Pistols – lost all of his new material when he had a domestic disaster at the London home he shares with wife Nora Forster recently.

He said: "Of all things it was a spin dryer, can you imagine Johnny Rotten's trousers being cleaned and dried? Well guess what - first time I try to get clean the house goes up in flames.

"All the songs I had for this current album, up in flames, but that doesn't matter!"

John will be disappointed about losing his new songs as he recently admitted he still doesn’t think he has created his best work yet.

He told BANG Showbiz: "My best record - that's coming soon. That's the truth of it - you're so happy and proud of what you've just done.

"The last release thrills you, but then you're back into songwriting again, and you're off into other attitudes and aspects and approaches - I don't think anyone worth their weight in artistic integrity will ever tell you they're happy about something they did in the past.

"All of us are most happiest with what we have not yet achieved."
