Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has claimed that he has been sober for 16 months, insisting: “I'm not fighting or struggling.”

The 64-year-old rocker has battled a drink problem for years and has previously undergone several stints in rehab.

But now he has declared that spending less time with friends, such as supermodel Kate Moss, has helped him to keep off the booze.

Wood told UK newspaper, the Daily Mail: "My circle of friends has changed. You put aside friends who say, 'Lets go and get ripped'. Kate's a mate, but I don't see a lot of her these days."

He added: "I'm just enjoying being sober. Sixteen months now – the war is over. I'm not fighting or struggling."

He revealed that he decided to get sober after being cautioned for common assault following an alleged booze-fuelled row with ex-girlfriend Ekaterina Ivanova, in 2009.

He said: "I started looking at the consequences of my actions."
