Stevie Nicks never had a family because she wanted “the artist’s life”.

The American singer-songwriter is best known for her work with Fleetwood Mac and has an extensive solo career, which together have earned her over 40 Top 50 hits and seen her sell  over 140 million albums.

Stevie has never married or had children, and made those decisions because she wanted to make the most of her time in the music industry.

“I wanted the artist’s life,” she mused in an interview with Nylon magazine. “And that’s why I’m sitting her alone.”

Stevie, who has been dubbed The High-Priestess of Rock, had a public battle with cocaine addiction and dependency on tranquilisers.

The 63-year-old star has overcome her struggles and insists that it has made her a better performer.

“I don’t do any of it anymore,” she confessed. “When I walk on stage I wanna look beautiful and I wanna sing great and I don’t want people to go ‘What’s the matter with her?’ I want people to say, ‘She’s a marvellous performer and she’s trying really hard up there.’”
