Green Day reportedly have a "a tonne of new songs" in the pipeline, according to front man, Billie Joe Armstrong.

Writing on his official Twitter account, Twitter.com/bjaofficial, the singer wrote: "OK. Here's the scoop. Green Day has been jamming new songs everyday."

"There's a tonne of new songs. The direction is fresh and high energy. Feels great."

While Armstrong did not reveal any further details, he did admit that he and his band were having “the best time” in the studio together: "I don't want to give away too much, but just know that me, Mike Dirnt [bassist], Tre [Cool, drummer] and Jason White [touring guitarist] are collaborating and having the best time playing music."

Back in March, Green Day released a new live album, 'Awesome As F*ck', yet the pop punk band have been reluctant to reveal any details regarding a follow up to their last studio album, 2009's  '21st Century Breakdown'.
