Shaun Ryder has claimed The Stone Roses will only reunite as front man Ian Brown "needs the cash".

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Ryder said he believed a reunion was imminent: "I think it'll happen, I really do. There is more of a chance now than ever of them getting back together.“

Ryder added Brown’s recent split from his wife may fuel the chances: “Ian [Brown]'s just split with his missus and I bet she's hit him for a few quid.”

The Happy Mondays-man concluded: "The only reason they [The Stone Roses] will get back together is if Ian needs the cash. He never has before, he's a millionaire."

The Stone Roses were said to be reforming earlier this year, following claims Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire had ended their 15-year feud. While a representative for bass player Gary 'Mani' Mounfield dismissed the speculation, rumours the 'Fools Gold' band are to get back together remain persistent.
