Jon Bon Jovi had $100,000 worth of his wife's jewellery taken during a burglary at his New Jersey mansion, it has emerged.

Police say the rock superstar's $22.25 million, 15-acre estate was one of at least four luxury homes targeted in Middleton, New Jersey.

Nicholas Tracy, 21, was arrested after allegedly tripping a burglar alarm in one of Bon Jovi's neighbours' homes.

Tracy has been charged with taking $500,000 worth of items in four separate burglaries, including the $100,000 worth of gems belonging to Dorothea Bongiovi, Jon Bon Jovi's wife.

Tracy's bail was set at $100,000.
