Jack Savoretti - Between The Minds

23-year-old Italian/English songwriter and musician, Jack Savoretti’s album “between the minds” is actually very cool.

Now these chill-out tunes may seem a bit like James Blunt but I can tell you know – he’s a damn sight better! We have 12 tracks or impressive lyrics and guitar playing which totally sooths =] the only thing I can really say against it is all the songs pretty much tick the same boxes – meaningful, heartfelt, melodic, soothing, guitar –y – but as good as he is at this combination – them all being the same does kind of make you forget that the songs are even playing.

Savoretti has a distinct tone to his voice which I think put together with the fact that he is ‘a bit phitt’ will definitely help him build his collective of females fans.

This debut album can doubtlessly stand up to its competitors in the folk/country music market at present though he may have a long way to go before he can sit comfortably along names such as Damien Rice and Nick Drake – but it sure does look like there will be a place waiting for him when he gets there.

Track 4 – Once upon a Street – 10/10

This is a very country focused song combining emotive lyrics with his acoustic guitar. This song is about a young songwriter “going nowhere, would you like to come too?” listening to this song I got shivers (which is very strange I know but that’s just how good it is)

Track 12 - Killing Man – 9/10

This track is full of dark imagery, which forces you to listen to the lyrics, “in my sleep I’m still running”.  His work may not make you want to get up and dance but we cant take anything away from it for that – personally I think that’s what makes it more likely to hang around for a long time without getting on your nerves. As the final track of his debut we are given just the right amount of emotion and self-examination.
