We take a look back at what the music world had to offer us this past year and what we have to look forward to in 2010.

2009 started off with a bang with Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' becoming the first Number One of the year. We were introduced to the weird and wonderful Lady GaGa as her debut single 'Just Dance' smashed onto the scene which was closely followed up with more great hits such as 'Pokerface' and 'LoveGame'. Duffy dominated the Brit awards winning Best British Breakthrough, Best British Album and Best British Female and more achievements for UK artists came as N-Dubz announced they were preparing to go on their first ever tour titled The Uncle B Tour.

Britney Spears made her widely anticipated comeback and proved all critics wrong as she headed up for her first tour since her breakdown the year before. The Circus tour exceeded all expectations and got rave reviews even from it's critics.

Simon Cowell had another fantastic year as his artists made bank. Susan Boyle raked in over 200 million YouTube hits for her rendition of 'I Dreamed A Dream' on Britain's Got Talent, Alexandra Burke hit the top spot with 'Bad Boys' and Leona Lewis released another corker in 'Happy' which charted at Number 2.

So what's expected from 2010? Well Diana Vickers (remember her from last year's X Factor?) is set to release her first studio album, other albums can be expected from Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears and artists returning after a long break include Aaron Carter, TLC, No Doubt and Christina Aguilera so let the chart battles commence!
