Lily Allen Can Write A New Song In Two Hours
Lily Allen says she can write a song in two hours.
The singer is famed for her honest lyrics, and has written tunes about her father and ex-lovers. She doesn’t understand why some bands take so long to put out records, insisting it takes her no time at all to come up with tracks as she just writes about her life.
“I try really hard to not sound clichéd in my songs, the way I do that is just by being honest. Maybe if it felt like it was hard I’d feel like I’d achieved something, but it just comes out of my head and I sing it. It takes a couple of hours to write a song,” she said. “Two hours to get the skeleton of a song, then you add to it. I don’t write in my spare time, it’s generally because someone is there waiting for me to do it.”
The 25-year-old has been criticised for putting on a London accent when she is singing. She admits her voice is different when she is speaking compared to when she is performing, but insists that is the way with most artists. Lily thinks lots of people sing in an American accent as it sounds more rhythmical, and doesn’t understand why people are rude about her voice.
“I wear really expensive clothes, I talk in a posh accent. I think because I sing in an English accent people say I’m trying to be cockney,” she said on a British TV show. “You couldn’t sing in an accent like mine unless you’re doing classical music. So I sing like I do to make it flow properly.”
