Bon Jovi Are The Latest Band To Join Simon Cowell's Charity Single

Bon Jovi are the latest band to join Simon Cowell’s charity single to aid the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Simon announced he was persuading an all-star cast to record a cover of REM’s sombre ballad Everybody Hurts last week, with all proceeds from the record being donated to help those affected by the natural disaster.

Big names including Leona Lewis, Michael Buble, Robbie Williams, Take That, Rod Stewart, Westlife and Kylie Minogue have already confirmed they will be taking part. Bon Jovi have now announced they will also be recording vocals for the track, which will hit stores on February 7.

BRIT Awards bosses are said to be holding discussions to incorporate the song into the ceremony, which will take place on February 16 at London’s Earls Court Arena. An emergency meeting has already been held to work how best to showcase the song, with organisers considering asking all the musicians to perform it live.

“A special production meeting was called to reconsider the running order to include the song,” a source said, “It’s something that has never happened before. But the events in Haiti have made everybody sit up and listen.”

If it is logistically impossible to get all the acts together, it is understood the song’s video will be played at the event.

Yesterday saw several stars record their lyrics for the tune. Simon is keen to get the single released as quickly as possible, so producer Steve Robson is using cutting-edge techniques to mix it so the artists don’t need to record it together.

Miley Cyrus laid down her part in Los Angeles, while Cheryl Cole recorded in London. Rod Stewart, Alexandra Burke, James Morrison, Susan Boyle and Mika also sang in London, with Mika revealing he didn’t have to think twice when asked to take part. “I have friends from France whose families have been directly affected in Haiti. They lost relatives and homes. I’m looking at different ways I can do something,” he said.

Meanwhile, The Pogues, Johnny Depp and his partner Vanessa Paradis, Primal Scream rocker Bobby Gillespie and Nick Cave are teaming up to cover 1956 track I Put A Spell On You to aid victim of the earthquake. Simply Red star Mick Hucknell might also provide vocals, with recording already underway.

A tremor measuring 7.0 on the Richter Scale hit the Caribbean Island earlier this month. As many as 200,000 are thought to have died, with countless others left without shelter or food.
