Cheryl Cole Beaten By Joe In Chart Battle
Cheryl Cole looks set to be beaten to the UK No 1 slot this weekend by 'X Factor' protégé Joe McElderry.
Her second solo single, '3 Words', is expected to limp into the UK charts at No 8 after selling just 8,808 copies on Monday, reports The Sun.
Her debut single 'Fight For This Love' became one of the biggest selling singles of the year after selling over 290,000 copies in its first week.
The track '3 Words' was released a week after Joe's single 'The Climb' so that Cheryl would have a better chance at bagging the top spot.
But McElderry who lost out the coveted Christmas No 1 to Rage Against The Machine, is back on track to top the charts this weekend.
'The Climb' is now outselling RATM's 'Killing In The Name' by two to one, selling 77,329 copies, according to early sales figures.
RATM sold 39,030 which should see them chart at No 2.
The American band set two new records with their chart win last week - for the first single to reach Christmas No 1 from purely download sales, and for the fastest selling download single ever.
They sold just over 500,000 copies last week after a Facebook campaign set up by Jon and Tracy Mortner, who were sick of 'X Factor' winners dominating the Christmas charts.
