Avril Lavigne returns after two years in the studio spent making her fourth album, 'Goodbye Lullaby'.

'What The Hell' starts with an electric organ hook, before Sk8r Boi drums gives it that lemonade-disco sound. She's a pretty benign influence, her pop-punk isn't intended as serious, and overall her relentlessly catchy songs haven't been too annoying.

The chorus on this single is worryingly similar to the 'Hey hey you you' of mega-hit 'Girlfriend'. The liberation of pubescent girls continues as the lyrics on 'What The Hell' chart a sudden devil-may-care attitude: "All I want is to mess around and I don't really care about". It would be worrying if it weren't so Mickey Mouse.

The new album, said to be "more raw and organic", by the PR material, is out 7th March.
