According to research by Music Week, Calvin Harris topped the songwriting charts with a hand in many hits.

His singles Bounce and Feel So Close both reached number two in the singles chart but also co-wrote Rihanna's hugely successful single We Found Love which topped the chart for six non-consecutive weeks last year.

Harris was also named as co-writer on Chris Brown's Yeah 3X after he protested it sounded the same as his 2009 track I'm Not Alone.

The Smeezingtons, who include Bruno Mars, followed Harris in the chart after writing for Eminem's Bad Meets Evil, Snoop Dogg and the whole of Bruno Mars' Doo Wops and Hooligans.

Adele and Ed Sheeran followed in third and fourth with hugely successful albums 21 and +, while Norweigan songwriters Stargate, who worked with Rihanna, make up the top five. Katy Perry and the Pussycat Dolls collaborator Ester Dean was sixth, with Lady Gaga seventh.

Claude Kelly who writes with Jessie J follows in eighth, Military Wives composer Paul Mealor in ninth and Kelly Clarkson songwriter Dr Luke making up the top ten.
