The singer said she still had a lot to prove with record label bosses after she came second in the show last year.

Like most X Factor runners up, Rebecca Fergusson has revealed that when she was pipped to the post in 2010 the singer feared that she would soon be forgotten like so many before her. While it is only a year on, and many get at least a couple of years, it doesn’t look like that is happening anytime soon.

The singer said in a BBC interview, “I am quite shy and very quiet but I can be assertive when it comes to things I believe in. I’ve found in this business you have to be assertive. You have to take a step back when you are runner up, and that’s what I had to do. There was a fear, I thought “Am I going to be forgotten?”

Ferguson also went on to say that she still had to prove a lot to record bosses before getting her contract, most of all her songwriting abilities.

Her debut album Heaven is out now and released in the US later in the year and kicks off her UK tour in February.
