Adele breaks album chart records
Adele Adele's 21 is not only the biggest selling album of the 21st century but has become the longest chart-topping release in over 40 years.
According to The Official Charts Company, the album has sold 3.8 million copies and is now at number one for its 19th non-consecutive week since its release in January 2011.
21 is the longest running number one album for a solo artist in the UK and the sixth longest running number one overall. Only Simon & Garfunkel and The Beatles have had longer non-consecutive stints at number one.
If Adele spends one more week at the top of the album chart, she will equal Queen and Oasis with the number of weeks spent at number one. This will be some achievement considering 21 is only Adele's second album, with Queen taking nine albums and Oasis eight albums to notch 21 weeks each spent at the top of the album chart.
Meanwhile Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and Amy Winehouse make up the top five in this week's chart. Beyonce, who celebrates the birth of her baby girl on Saturday, climbs back into the top ten at number six, followed by Olly Murs, Jessie J, Rebecca Ferguson and Rihanna.
American DJ Skrillex, who featured in the BBC's Sound of 2012 shortlist, makes this week's only top 40 new entry with Bangarang at 36.
