X Factor winner, Matt Cardle is back from a recent visit to one of the poorest parts of rural Tanzania for Comic Relief - and the star reveals why he became involved in the project.

Matt - who nearly died from kidney cancer at the age of two - said he is so lucky he had some of the best paediatricians looking after him.

Recalling how his cancer was discovered he said: “My mum saw a rash on my leg - she's a bit neurotic, thank God - the doctors saw I was weak and they found a huge tumour on my kidney."

The “When We Collide” singer revealed the most difficult thing he encountered on his life-changing trip to Africa - is when he met with women who were being educated on health dangers before and post pregnancy.

He said: “Meeting the woman who'd given birth on the side of the road, sitting there in the hospital with her baby.

“I had to ask her what would've happened if the health agents hadn't pointed her in the right direction.

“The answer is, she would've died.”
