Ed Sheeran returns to top of album chart
Ed Sheeran Ed Sheeran's debut album has climbed from ninth to first place in the first album chart of the year.
According to the Official Charts Company, '+' became the second biggest debut album of 2011 and the fastest selling digital debut album of all time when it was released back in September.
Bruno Mars climbs to second place with Doo-Wops and Hooligans with Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto in third. Olly Murs' In Case You Didn't Know follows at four and Amy Winehouse's posthumous album Lioness: Hidden Treasures is at five. Adele's 21 remains at number six, nearly a full year since its release.
Rihanna's Talk That Talk is at seven, with One Direction's Up All Night at eight, while Rebecca Ferguson's Heaven and Jessie J's Who You Are making up the top ten.
Adele's 21 is the biggest selling album of 2011 with nearly 3.8 million album sales, selling more than any other album in a single calendar year in British chart history. Adele's 19 is the fourth highest selling album of last year with Coldplay, Jessie J and Ed Sheeran also in the top ten highest selling albums of 2011.
BPI chairman Tony Wadsworth said: "Led by Adele, Jessie J, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and others, records by British artists in 2011 achieved both critical and commercial success both at home and around the world."
