Sir Paul McCartney has thanked Russian fans for giving him a warm welcome.

The legendary Beatles musician took his On The Run tour to Moscow’s Olimpiysky complex in Russia yesterday (14.12.11), and as he left, sent a message thanking fans for welcoming his show back.

In a video which shows Paul on his tour bus, he says: "Hey Russia! We just finished our Moscow gig, it was great, thank you Moscow, thank you everybody in Russia for such a beautiful welcome back, we love you and we'll see you next time."

Referring to current upset over last Sunday's (11.12.11) parliamentary elections and planned protests against their outcome scheduled for today (15.12.11), he added: "In the meantime, good luck in your elections, rock on, do the right thing, we know you will, see you soon."

The Beatles were banned from Russia – then a communist state – in 1964 and Paul only played his first concert in the country's Red Square in Moscow in 2003.

Last night was only the 'Yesterday' hitmaker's third ever show in the country and saw him play 35 songs, including his Beatles track 'Back in the USSR', in a three hour set.

The On The Run tour will now return to England, where Paul will perform in Manchester on December 19, and finish with a hometown show in Liverpool on December 20.
