Cheryl Cole fans face jail for taking photos of the star
Cheryl Cole In a move described as “crackpot” by many, Cheryl Cole has taken out a court injunction threatening anyone who takes photos of her will face time in prison.
The former X Factor judge had the injunction granted by Justice Eady to prevent any photos being taken of her at home or in the street for the rest of 2011. Something to do with her rumoured rekindled romance with ex husband Ashley Cole perhaps.
The Daily Star Sunday reported that copies of the order have appeared on lampposts around the singer’s former Enfield home.
The order, which is apparently issued against everyone, states, “Any person who knows of this order and disobeys this order will be in contempt of court and face imprisonment, fined and have their assets seized.”
So that means that even Cole’s well-wishing fans could risk going to prison if they try to get a snap of their idol.
The implications of the injunction are more far-reaching than just to the star herself, as media lawyers believe it will lead to similar injunctions.
“This is hugely significant as it will likely lead to many other celebrities following suit in applying for orders,” lawyer Ambi Sitham said. “It means that loyal fans who have camped out at concerts and such for hours and take a quick snap could be caught out by the terms of the order. This is likely to be criticised by the general public as these celebs will be happily posing at events expecting their photo to be taken, but are saying someone could go to jail for taking one at any other time.”
