Bono And Lady Gaga To Work On Haiti Charity Single

By MusicRooms on 01/02/2010
Bono and Lady Gaga will perform on a remake of We Are the World to raise money for the survivors of the Haiti earthquake.

Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones asked a host of big names to lend their vocal talents to the project when they attended the Grammy Awards last night. The latest stars to join the effort are the philanthropic U2 frontman and the outrageous pop singer. An impressive list of musicians including Usher, Akon, Jennifer Hudson, Toni Braxton, Enrique Iglesias, Carlos Santana and Jason Mraz, have already agreed to appear on the track.

It is believed the new version will be recorded at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles today.

Producer RedOne was thrilled to be approached by Quincy and was happy to lend his assistance. “It’s like the biggest honour in life to get a call from our father in music, Quincy Jones,” he said last night.

We Are the World was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel and originally co-produced by Quincy and Michael Omartian. It was first released in 1985 to raise money for impoverished African countries.

The new track will be available to download from iTunes. Proceeds will go to Haiti relief funds.
