The singer is giving up royalties from the country version of Born This Way to an anti-bullying charity.

She’s on the charity trail again, this time with her country influenced version of hit single Born This Way.

The singer is donating her takings from the song to an anti-bullying charity. The song itself is an advert for equal rights for gays and lesbians, and generally for anyone who dares to be different in the face of those shallow enough to discriminate them, which makes it an appropriate choice.

The GLSEN charity, which stands for Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, helps youngsters with bullying at school, and if it hadn’t existed already it is just the type of charity the singer would have set up herself.

Posting on her Twitter account the singer said, “Born This Way The Country Road Version is on iTunes and all proceeds go to the anti-bullying charity.

It’s been a while since there has been anyone which quite this level of pulling power that is willing to give up their royalties for good causes, and for that I salute her. If only more took this attitude, maybe celebrities would be looked at a little differently and a lot more charities would be able to do more of what they can’t achieve without such donations.
