A drama/comedy which reunites a charismatic ensemble cast including Tyler Perry, Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Sharon Leal, Tasha Smith, and Malik Yorba in this story of four married couples on a crusade to understand life, love and marriage while first vacationing in the Bahamas and again when each couple returns to their respective lives in Atlanta.

In the sequel, the four couples grapple with control issues, personal insecurities, jealousy, financial difficulties, trust, infidelity, loss of a child, the return of an ex-husband, and a host of other issues that relate to building meaningful, long-lasting marital relationships. The actors’ portrayals are well executed and met with tasteful moments of humor.

Angela’s control issues translate into her taking out all of her frustrations, insecurities and inability to trust Marcus on him. She constantly accuses him of cheating, even though he is not, and she shows up during a live taping of his sports show to continue hurl unfounded accusations. Her actions turn drive him crazy, as usual. Patricia and Gavin, the seemingly “perfect couple”, deal with their deep seated anger issues over the loss of their son and how his death has irreparably affected their relationship. Patricia makes a unilateral decision that ultimately and violently ends their relationship. Terry and Diane appear stable and secure with each other even though Terry suspects a third party has entered their marriage. This mystery person has been making his wife happy for 63 days. Sheila and Troy face the pressures of a new marriage, a new family and financial difficulties as well as the return of Sheila’s ex-husband, Mike.

The actors’ portrayal of their characters was very realistic. Tyler Perry plays a very convincing married man involved in his married life. It is as if he draws cues from a prior marital relationship. Although, I do not believe Mr. Perry has ever been married. Patricia continues to hold her emotions in and refuses to face the growing problems in her marriage. She finally faces the truth. She lets her guard down and lets it all out. In the end, she realizes that nothing should have come between her and Gavin. Janet Jackson’s portrayal of Patricia was gritty, real, revealing, and moving. She nailed it! Sheila is a changed woman, no longer receiving and accepting verbal abuse. Either she will have a real, honest marriage with the man she loves; who loves her, or nothing at all. Despite the fact that her ex-husband, Mike, makes several attempts to reunite with her, after realizing what he has lost, Sheila knows what she wants…a honest, loving marriage with Troy. Sheila has no problem relating this fact to Mike. Mike, after realizing he has no chance with Sheila, reveals his true intention for needing her. Janet Jackson’s song Nothing in film is the perfect anthem for married couples. It serves as a reminder to all married couples that are striving to maintain their relationships — nothing should come between them.

This film was well written, acted and directed. The background music chosen was perfect. Janet Jackson’s song Nothing was apropos. I believe that Tyler Perry really reached down to the core and touched on real problems that occur in marriages. I would recommend this movie to everyone. It reminds us to be true to each other and ourselves.
