America Ferrera The American TV series ended after four seasons in the US on Wednesday night, but it has now been reported a film adaptation could be in the works. Ana Ortiz has hinted the cast would love to take the programme to the big screen.
Ugly Betty follows the trials and tribulations of dowdy Betty Suarez, played by America Ferrera, as she tries to make it in the cut-throat world of fashion journalism. Ana says the show’s star, America, has revealed her desire to reprise the role of Betty.
“There may be a movie. It’s something that we’ve been talking about and it’s something that American Ferrera would really love to do,” Ana told Latina.com. “That woman has so much determination that I can’t imagine anything she puts her mind to not getting done.”
Ana played Betty’s sexy sister Hilda Suarez in the programme and says the role has played a vital part in her career. The actress spoke with great fondness for her character, a straight-talking single mother who was fiercely protective of her younger sister.
“Ugly Betty has been the most important thing I’ve ever done, easily,” she explained. “I was able to do more with one character than I can ever imagine doing again - Hilda was hilariously funny and emotionally deep.”
Last month, Ana landed a role in ABC pilot True Blue.
