Elijah Wood's Hobbit surprise
Elijah Wood The 30-year-old – who reprises his role as Lord of the Rings trilogy hero Frodo Baggins, even if the hobbit did not actually appear in the original JRR Tolkien book, in the prequel to again be directed by Sir Peter Jackson – has completed the shooting of his scenes for The Hobbit in New Zealand.
Now he is eager to take his seat at a screening of the completed movie – which stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins – mainly because he has no “deep knowledge” of the scenes he was not involved in.
The actor said: “What’s great is that, especially because my character is so small in this, I can be completely objective. So, I’m excited to see it, as a fan.
“I don’t have the months and months of months of hard work and experience on the films, and deep knowledge as to what they’re filming, on a day-to-day basis.
“I have my own little bit, and then everything is going to be a surprise.”
The star of movies such as Sin City and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind reckons his days on set of The Hobbit – which has been split into two films – were “a gift”, while Wood also considers the sets used to be “beautiful”.
Wood chatted with Collider.com about the upcoming movies, saying: “It was a gift to go back and return. I was in Hobbiton again, for the first time in 11 years. I turned 19 in Hobbiton. I’m 30 now.
“That put a lot of things into perspective. It was beautiful. It was just beautiful to go back.
“I only worked a small amount when I was there. I was there for a month, and the majority of my time was just going to set every day and meeting a lot of the new cast members, catching up with old friends, and being in Wellington again.”
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey arrives in British cinemas on December 14, while the second installment of the action-adventure, There and Back Again, is expected to hit the big screen in mid-December next year.
