Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 Passes $700 Million Worldwide
Robert Pattinson Breaking Dawn – Part 1 hit cinemas in the USA on November 18 and British-American movie studio Summit Entertainment announced that the film had already reached an impressive $701,271,000 in box office receipts globally as of yesterday.
The film, which stars Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, is well on the way to breaking the box office record for the franchise.
In fact, Breaking Dawn – Part 1 is just over $8 million behind second movie New Moon, which garnered $709,827,462 following its release on November 20, 2009 – and is sure to pass that mark soon with the fourth film still to be released in several big markets, including China and Japan.
The first film, Twilight, grossed $392,616,625 after its release in 2008, while the third installment from 2010, Eclipse, achieved $698,491,347 worldwide.
Summit Entertainment co-chairmen Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman provided a press statement, in which they said: “The milestone is important on several fronts and illustrates the vitality of the franchise on a global scale, even after four films.
“Stephenie Meyer’s story and characters were brought to the screen this time via the talented hands of [Academy Award winner] Bill Condon, along with the cast and crew that has been with the film franchise since its inception.
“We are very proud of the success the franchise has experienced and anticipate the saga’s conclusion this November.”
Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is due to hit British cinemas on November 16.
