Michael Fassbender might well be among the busiest men in the movie world right now, but that hasn’t stopped him from considering the possible plot lines for a prospective sequel to last year’s big screen hit X-Men: First Class.

The Irish-German actor spoke to IFC (Independent Film Channel) about the possible direction any follow-up to the sci-fi/adventure could take, posing the thought that Magneto may well not be depicted as an outright villain.

The 34-year-old said: “You know what’s interesting about Magneto and Professor X from the comic books, as well, is there’s such a complexity to their relationship. It’s not just like clear-cut enemies; they’re best friends, as well.”

Fassbender – who last year starred in British drama Shame – continued his musings by saying: “In the comic books, even after they’ve had this sort of rift, Professor X asks Magneto to come back and look after the students at certain points...

“I think there’s always that complexity in their relationship and we want to keep that alive as possible, because that’s, I think, a really interesting thing – the conflict there.”

Production has still to start on any sequel, but Fox Film Corporation are positive Matthew Vaughn will again direct, while Fassbender is a certainty after agreeing a multi-movie deal.
